West Ham United defender Kurt Zuma was fined £250,000 for kicking a cat. It is reported by The New York Times.

After a video appeared on the Web, which shows how a football player shows cruelty to an animal, he also lost his contract with Adidas. Zuma was fined by his own club, while it is specified that 250 thousand pounds is the maximum possible amount.

In the video published by The Sun newspaper, Zuma, 27, throws the cat to the floor and kicks it, while the person recording the video laughs. In another video, a footballer throws some objects at the animal, and in the third, he hits the face while the cat is in the hands of a child.

The club said in a statement that Zuma is very remorseful and, like everyone at the club, understands the depth of the feelings aroused in the public and the need to take appropriate action. He added that both of his cats, which were eventually removed from the football player, are in perfect order and healthy and that his behavior was an isolated incident that will never happen again.

West Ham said the money would be donated to animal welfare charities.
