In relation to Russia, visa restrictions may be introduced in the event of an “invasion” of Ukraine. This, according to RBC, was announced on the MSNBC TV channel by US Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman, who had previously stated that it was not clear what “Putin had in mind.”

“I hope that President Putin understands (the possible consequences of an invasion), given the deployment of our forces on the eastern flank, given the military assistance we have delivered to Ukraine, as well as other countries, (given) the sanctions, export restrictions and visa restrictions that will be applied, if he makes the wrong choice,” she said.

Whether we are talking about visa restrictions in relation to all Russians or only certain individuals is unknown.

We add that Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that Washington artificially restricts the issuance of non-immigrant visas to Russians.

Since 2021, statements have been made in Western countries, as well as in Ukraine, about a possible “invasion” of Russia into Ukrainian territory. Press Secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is moving troops within its territory and at its own discretion. According to him, it does not threaten anyone. Nevertheless, sanctions may be imposed in Russia.

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that the US government has prepared sanctions lists of representatives of the Russian elites and their families in the event of Russian aggression against Ukraine. Meanwhile, an employee of the National Security Council (NSC) of the White House, Peter Harrell, announced that new anti-Russian sanctions that could be imposed by the United States in the event of an aggravation of the situation around Ukraine are aimed at reducing the industrial potential of the Russian Federation and damaging the economy. Peskov said that the Kremlin has plans to hedge risks and minimize the consequences of US actions.
