The Ministry of Economic Development (MED) of the Russian Federation has prepared a draft plan for the implementation of the Strategy for the Socio-Economic Development of Russia with Low Greenhouse Gas Emissions until 2050 (the strategy was adopted at the end of October 2021).
The document, which includes tax and other measures to stimulate the “green” transition, will soon be discussed at a meeting with First Deputy Prime Minister Andrei Belousov, RBC reports.
The draft operating plan assumes that gross greenhouse gas emissions in the economy by 2030 will decrease slightly (about 1%) compared to pre-Covid 2019.
As Belousov said back in September last year, the transfer of the economy to renewable energy sources will become an analogue of the industrial revolution of the 18th-19th centuries, the processes that have begun in 10-15 years will lead to the formation of a completely new economic structure in the world. The First Deputy Prime Minister noted that decarbonization is already the main topic in determining the economic policy of the EU, the US, China and other countries, and the pace of Russia’s development should correspond to the world.
We also recall that in December the Institute for Strategic Analysis presented a report on the material consequences of Russia’s transition to a new, as it is often called, “green” energy. Experts did not rule out that “green energy” would deprive Russia of over 10 trillion rubles.
