Russia can reach a plateau in the incidence of coronavirus in three to four weeks, says infectious disease doctor Nikolai Malyshev.

According to the specialist, at present, the incidence rates in the regions remain high and “it takes time” to stabilize the situation. He noted that “the number of people discharged after COVID-19 began to grow slightly, but so far it is far from a plateau.” The doctor explained that a plateau is a period when the daily rates of sick and discharged patients coincide.

At the same time, another ratio – between the number of hospitalized and discharged from hospitals per day – is more important for the healthcare system and doctors working in covid hospitals. The coincidence of these indicators will be the most objective evidence of reaching a plateau, Malyshev stressed.

Currently, the number of hospitalizations significantly exceeds the number of discharges, the infectious disease specialist noted. According to him, this situation will continue for another three to four weeks, after which we can expect a cessation of the increase in the incidence, and in the future, an improvement in the epidemiological situation, RIA Novosti reports.
