Before that, the deputies of the National Council of the Republic approved the agreement on the same day. He was supported by 79 deputies from the ruling coalition, 60 deputies from opposition parties voted against. Speaker of Parliament Boris Kollar abstained.

A bilateral agreement between Bratislava and Washington will enable the American side to use the military airfields Malacky-Kuhinya in the east of the republic and Sliac in its central part free of charge for 10 years. In turn, the United States undertakes to allocate $100 million to modernize the defense infrastructure of Slovakia. After the expiration of the established agreement, it can be extended or terminated.

According to RIA Novosti, Prosecutor General of the Republic Maros Zhilinka found 35 inconsistencies with Slovak law in the document and argued that the agreement with the United States would lead to “violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Slovakia.”
