In Bangladesh, over the past 11 days, five Russians who worked at the Rooppur nuclear power plant under construction have died one after another. The general contract for the construction of Rooppur NPP in Bangladesh in 2015 was awarded to Atomstroyexport, a subsidiary of Rosatom.
According to Interfax with reference to the United News of Bangladesh, the local police have already begun checking into this fact.
As specified, two Russians died in the same hospital in the Ishvardi area. At the end of January, a 44-year-old man died there, who was there for treatment. On February 5, a 48-year-old mechanical engineer was taken to the same hospital. The man suddenly became ill, but the doctors were unable to save him.
Another employee, a 40-year-old man, died in his sleep on February 2.
On February 5, a 59-year-old employee of a subcontractor company died next to his own apartment in a high-rise building in which construction participants live.
The next day, a 45-year-old Russian was found dead in his apartment.
According to the police, the autopsy showed nothing suspicious in any of the cases. They also noted that one of the deceased had a cardiovascular disease.
The state corporation Rosatom, in turn, expressed its condolences to the relatives of the deceased and said that it was cooperating with the investigation.
Recall that Moscow and Dhaka signed an agreement on the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Bangladesh in December 2015. Rooppur is designed and built according to the Russian project. It includes, among other things, the commissioning of two power units. Its first unit should be put into operation in 2023.
