The mention of faith in God must be included in the list of traditional values of Russia. This is the opinion of Vladimir Legoyda, head of the synodal department for relations between the Church, society and the media, who spoke at the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation during the discussion of the draft foundations of state policy for the preservation and strengthening of traditional Russian spiritual and moral values.

He points to the fact that religious beliefs were initially involved in the formation of national identity, traditions and values of the people of Russia.

“We assume that it is very important to include a mention of faith in God or religious faith in the list of traditional values, and also to take into account the fact that religious associations are an organic part of civil society, which should participate in state-supported programs and projects aimed at preserving and affirmation of traditional values,” TASS quotes Legoyda.

The foundations of the state policy for the preservation and strengthening of traditional Russian spiritual and moral values were developed by the Russian Research Institute of Cultural and Natural Heritage named after Dmitry Likhachev. This document is currently available to the public for review. In addition, it will have to be discussed at the platforms of the upper and lower houses of the Parliament, in the Public Chamber and in other instances.
