Biggest game transaction at risk? Microsoft is reassuring

The purchase of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft is the largest transaction in the history of computer games. The company responsible for creating the Windows operating system is increasingly pushing forward on the gaming market, becoming one of the industry leaders.

Record transaction

The video game industry was a dead end when Microsoft announced the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. Nearly $ 70 billion has been hit at the moment, making it the most expensive transaction in the industry’s history. The Redmond giant for the buyout was to acquire the rights to many iconic titles, including Diablo, StarCraft and Warcraft.

Soon it was getting even hotter around the deal. Every huge takeover has to be carefully verified by the scales. This is to avoid monopolization of the market while maintaining healthy competition. In the United States, such matters are usually handled by the Department of Justice. In the case of the purchase of Activision Blizzard, however, a breakthrough took place, when it was finally handled by the Federal Trade Commission, i.e. the independent agency of the US government for the enforcement of civil monopoly law.

Microsoft is reassuring

The Bloomberg editorial, which first revealed the involvement of the Federal Trade Commission, described it in much more detail and strictly the Department of Justice. It was ensured that the case was also looked at in terms of employee rights, which were regularly violated at Activision Blizzard, which became the cause of a petition against the company.

The mood is calmed by Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s chief executive in an interview with the Financial Times. It states that the Federal Trade Commission will find no irregularities that could stop the transaction. At the same time, he emphasizes that with the buyout, the Redmond-based company will become the third largest company in the gaming industry, behind Sony and Tencent.
