The mayor of Quito, Santiago Guarderas, gave a press conference, on the morning of this Monday, February 7, at the Municipal Palace, announcing the formation of a committee made up of civil society, private business and associations. This group will analyze the causes of the flood recorded on January 31 in La Comuna and La Gasca, in the north center of Quito.
In addition, this commission will review the rehabilitation plan, recovery and improvement of the areas affected by the natural disaster. Guarderas offered to present the set of strategies tomorrow, at 15:00.
According to the latest report from the Security Secretariat of Quito, with a cutoff date of Sunday, February 6, at 6:00 p.m., the flood left 28 people dead, 52 injured and one person missing.
This committee will be made up of national and international experts, according to the mayor. This will propose a broader investigation of the risk problems in Quito to make timely decisions to avoid new disasters.
Carlos Loiza, president of the Chamber of Commerce of Quito (CCQ), who chairs this commission, pointed out that the private company will provide all the necessary contingent with technicians and specialists to contribute to prevention measures.
To this were added Maria Samaniego, president of the College of Pichincha Architects, Y Christopher Velasco, President of the Association of Professionals in Risk Management of Ecuador, who offered the necessary personnel to start the risk assessment in this sector and other points of the capital.
