A group of 14 men and 1 woman were transferred from the El Turi detention center in Cuenca to the Loja social rehabilitation center.

At 2:30 p.m. this Sunday, February 6, dozens of people were waiting outside the prison for the arrival of those deprived of liberty.

The relatives of those arrested were moved when a bus guarded by National Police patrol cars appeared, in which the detainees were being transported.

According to the authorities of the rehabilitation center, on January 8, 108 people who were held in Loja were transferred to other detention centers in ManabĂ­, Latacunga and Cuenca, by order of the National Service for Persons Deprived of Liberty (SNAI). .

This, with the purpose of decongesting the prison in Loja. Those transferred include people whose sentence is more than 16 years, among other inmates.

A communique reported a list of detainees who should be transferred and that initially it was 116, however, it was later found that there were repeated names or people who had already served their sentence and were free and other inmates whose folders they were under review, for the penitentiary benefit.

Subsequently, the respective adjustments were made, it was indicated.

According to relatives of the inmates, more than 70 detainees would have come out of one pavilion alone.

The same relatives immediately began the procedures through lawyers, to request the return of those who were transferred, since they fear for their lives, due to the high level of danger that exists in the prisons of Cuenca, Latacunga, Guayaquil and ManabĂ­, according to what they claimed.
