Novaya Gazeta columnist Elena Milashina leaves the Russian Federation.

As stated in the editorial statement, the decision to send Elena Milashina abroad was made “in connection with the special relations that have developed between the federal government and the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov.” It is noted that numerous personal threats that were made in recent days by prominent representatives of the Chechen Republic against Elena were taken into account.

“Its location will not affect the coverage of the topic of human rights in Chechnya,” Novaya Gazeta editors stressed.

Earlier, a deputy of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Boris Vishnevsky wrote a statement addressed to the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov, in which he asked to check the recent statements of the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov for compliance with federal legislation. In his opinion, Kadyrov’s words about human rights activist Igor Kalyapin and Novaya Gazeta journalist Yelena Milashina, whom Kadyrov called “terrorists”, should be checked. At the same time, the phrase about the destruction of terrorists and their accomplices also appeared in the statements of the leader of Chechnya.
