Ukraine can transfer all nuclear power units located on its territory to American Westinghouse nuclear fuel within two years. Petr Kotin, Acting President of NNEGC Energoatom, told UNIAN about this. Thus, the country will gradually completely abandon Russian nuclear fuel.
Kotin noted that six reactors with a capacity of 1,000 megawatts and two units with a capacity of 440 megawatts are currently operating on fuel from Russia. In total, 15 nuclear power units operate in Ukraine. According to him, after 2025, two more reactors will switch to American fuel.
Earlier, Petr Kotin said that Ukraine would stop all its nuclear power plants if Russia provokes an escalation of the military conflict. “If we have bombs flying from above, they will certainly be stopped,” he said.
At the end of January, we recall, the former head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry threatened with a missile attack on nuclear power plants in Russia. Former head of the department Volodymyr Ohryzko said that the Ukrainian military has missiles that “can cover very serious infrastructure facilities of the Russian Federation, including nuclear power plants.”
