In Guinea-Bissau, after an extraordinary ministerial meeting attended by President Shisoku Embalo and the Prime Minister, shots and automatic bursts rang out outside the Government Palace. The military entered the building, the council had to be interrupted, and the head of state, along with the Cabinet, was taken out. This is reported by the French radio RFI.
The conflict arose after a reshuffle in the government. The president, according to LUSA, has already been returned to the palace, where he is preparing to speak to the press. Four people were injured in the incident.
The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has previously called what is happening in Guinea-Bissau an attempted coup.
According to the President of the country, the shooting in the capital of Bissau lasted for several hours, and allegedly there are dead. But the situation is now under control, he said.
As RIA Novosti was told at the Russian embassy, after the skirmish began, the work of the airport, banks, government agencies and commercial enterprises stopped in the city. So far, none of the political forces of Guinea-Bissau has taken responsibility for storming the government house.
