The leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia is dissatisfied with the operation of servers on the Russian Elbrus processors of the MCST company due to problems in operation. It is reported by “Kommersant”.

From a letter from Deputy Interior Minister Vitaly Shulika dated December 27, 2021 to the government, it follows that servers based on the Elbrus 8C processor do not support loading the operating system from storage media, “which does not allow for an adequate level of fault tolerance of software and hardware systems.” Shulika proposed in 2022 to test the performance of Elbrus when working with domestic system software.

MCST spokesman Konstantin Trushkin said that “a solution has been found for the I / O speed problems – updating the OS and correct configuration of application software.”

“When the OS is loaded, we are preparing an update,” he added.

Sergey Ovchinnikov, the general director of Norsi-Trans, a supplier of servers for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, acknowledged claims from consumers regarding performance. He clarified that “we are not standing still,” and in the first quarter of 2022, deliveries of Elbrus 16C will begin.

We add that Russian processor manufacturers receive funding. At the end of last year, Baikal Electronics JSC received 10 billion rubles as a subsidy. for the development and production of new lines of Baikal processors, JSC MCST received 7.1 billion rubles from the Ministry of Industry and Trade. for the development of the Elbrus 32C processor for defense purposes.
