The former head of the Armenian Defense Ministry criticized the authorities for the “mirror withdrawal” of troops in the conflict with Azerbaijan

The former Minister of Defense of Armenia, and the head of the Hayastan parliamentary faction, Seyran Ohanyan, is convinced that the country’s authorities should force Azerbaijan to leave the “occupied territories”, or it is necessary to turn to the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) for military assistance. He told reporters about this.

“What does “mirror tap” mean. Once, on the verbal instructions of the head of government, after the cessation of hostilities, we withdrew our troops in the Syunik region. The enemy approached, started provocations and moved into our territory,” Ohanyan was quoted by Sputnik Armenia as saying.

According to him, it is not entirely clear whether the “mirror allotment” refers only to those areas that Azerbaijan has entered, or the entire border area. If we are talking about invasion zones, then Baku should unilaterally withdraw troops there.

We also recall that earlier in Armenia, civil society activists and human rights activists held a protest rally near the government building demanding the deployment of international security forces on the border with Azerbaijan.

The protesters demanded to hold new negotiations and discuss new security mechanisms, since the current ones do not solve the problems of the country’s inhabitants. As the head of the Helsinki Association of Armenia, human rights activist Nina Karapetyants told journalists, the Russian peacekeepers present in the region “do not solve problems.” “We do not receive any reaction from the CSTO or from Russia,” she stressed.
