With 62-year-old Krzysztof Baran. Aries – years ago living in the Grand Hotel in Łódź or in the Greek Larisa – today lives in terrible conditions. Plaster is falling from his tenement house, the walls are dirty and shabby, and the stairs are wooden.
The apartment – as Faron writes – is clean and tidy, however. The trouble is that Baran, along with her partner Agnieszka and her ailing mother, may soon find their way to the pavement. “He gets 528 zlotys from social assistance, Agnieszka – over 200 zlotys. And the apartment is indebted for around 20,000-30,000 (they are already lost in the calculations). They do not pay the rent. There is no hot water, because they have cut off the gas, you need to heat in a pot. They are kept up to date only with the electricity. But it is not known for how long, because a huge raise is supposed to be prepared. And you have to eat “- we read.
“I was earning a lot. You could go crazy. And I went crazy.”
It used to be different. “I played well, earned disgustingly a lot. You can go crazy. And I’m crazy” – said Krzysztof Baran in 2007.
Baran began his career in Warsaw, but quickly met his talent in and in 1983, the former player of Gwardia already played in Łódź. As he recalls, he lived in the Grand Hotel at the time and ate in the best restaurants. Then he moved to Górnik, and there his salary increased even more.
“I had a full-time job in a mine, I think Bielszowice, but I was downstairs only once – in Wieliczka. I earned even more than in ŁKS. 15 national averages. Winning a match, I received a bonus of PLN 300,000, and a real miner earned about one hundred thousand a month. I was filthy rich and I spent disgustingly a lot. I bought a car. I preferred a polonaise, but I got the voucher for the Lada “- wrote Agnieszka Urazińska and Jerzy Walczyk.
Baran himself admits that he lost his fortune – and not only because he had good contacts with his ex-wife and children – because of alcohol. After two seasons in the Greek league, Baran returned to Poland, but he played semi-amateur football. He started working – first in a meat processing plant, then in a bar. However, he cannot return to work, he has had several spine surgeries, the ball has taken his health away.
“After the brewery somehow easier, a person becomes indifferent”
“I wasn’t a bad parent. If I didn’t drink, I cared. What are you saying? That the relationship was spoiled by alcohol? Well, probably yes. Children like me asked me not to drink anymore. I replied: take it easy, dad knows what he is doing. “- we read in Dariusz Farona. In the “Wyborcza” report, he mentions how, after training in Larisa, he would go to a tavern and drink 15 beers during one day.
Today, years later, she adds: “It’s so good that I managed to get out of the addiction. Today, delicately – a beer, juice, chips to or a match. After the brewery, it is easier for a person to become indifferent. But, I say, I’m not an alcoholic.”
Together with his partner Agnieszka and her ailing mother, they have trouble surviving until the first time. The former Polish representative is helped by the Polish Football Association, but Baran puts off the aid for – as he says – the rainy hour. “Meanwhile, we are threatened with eviction. We pray that they will not throw us out. We are alive and as if we have already died” – he says.
