An omicron wave could be triggered by the return of the Delta strain of the coronavirus. The director of the Institute of Medical Parasitology, Tropical and Transmissible Diseases named after Marcinov Sechenov University Alexander Lukashev expressed his opinion on this.

“When we pass the omicron wave, the delta will again have a chance. We have no guarantee that the next wave, say, next fall, will not be caused by the same “delta,” the expert said on the air of the Rossiya 24 TV channel.

According to the virologist, it is already too late to introduce anti-covid restrictions in the Russian Federation – the number of actually infected is much higher than official data. “The virus has already spread very widely,” Lukashev explained, calling it naive to believe that the coronavirus will eventually disappear. At the same time, he believes that after the “omicron” wave, people will be able to perceive the pandemic with greater calm.

Earlier, Lukashev warned that most Russians would recover from the omicron strain within two weeks. In turn, TV doctor Alexander Myasnikov called for a review of the strategy and tactics of combating covid due to the spread of “omicron”.

Recall that over the past day in Russia, 49,513 cases of coronavirus infection were detected – this is a new maximum for the entire time of the pandemic.
