A girl was injured by a projectile during the shooting.
A seafood merchant was killed in a shootout at a home in the Centenario neighborhood, in the Tonchigüe parish, Atacames canton, southern Esmeraldas province. The victim was identified as Rubén Álvarez Zambrano.
The attack was reported to the ECU911 System by residents of that sector at 02:00 this Monday, January 17.

Hooded individuals arrived at the site, got out of a vehicle and shot at the house several times, according to preliminary data.
Álvarez Zambrano received several projectiles that caused his death in one of the rooms.
In this attack, an 11-year-old girl was also injured at the ankle, apparently by the passage of a projectile. She was transferred to a hospital in Atacames.
The burst of shots caused large holes in the house. In that same place, the wake of the merchant was held, this Monday morning.
Uniformed report that this is the first violent death in Tonchigüe this year. Six murders occurred in this town in 2021 and are under investigation by the National Police.
While in Nuevo Quininde, in the urban area of Rosa Zárate (center of the province of Esmeraldas), two people aged 19 and 24, respectively, were wounded by gunshots between the afternoon and night of Sunday, January 16. (I)
