Omicron-strain reached the Pskov region

In the Pskov region, the first cases of infection with a new strain of coronavirus “omicron” were detected. As Governor Mikhail Vedernikov writes on Instagram, on January 14, 101 samples were sent to the laboratory, 15 of them were found to contain the omicron strain. Including omicron was detected in the samples of two children.

Omicron-strain of the virus was confirmed in residents of Pskov, Novorzhevsky, Gdovsky, Porkhov and Opochetsky districts of the region. Vedernikov recalled that Omicron is extremely contagious and spreads very quickly, a contact person becomes contagious on the very first day. The governor urged residents of the region to call a doctor immediately if they feel any worse and stay at home so as not to jeopardize the health of others.

We will remind, earlier Vedernikov said that the Pskov region is on the verge of a new wave of coronavirus. During the day, 135 new cases of coronavirus were detected in the region (in total – 72,875), 74 patients recovered (in total – 68,875). The number of deaths from coronavirus in the Pskov region has increased to 1352, over the past day – seven deaths.
