The rector of the Moscow Higher School of Social and Economic Sciences (“Shaninka”) and the director of the Institute of Social Sciences of the RANEPA Sergey Zuev himself asked to be transferred from a civilian hospital to the medical unit of the Matrosskaya Tishina pre-trial detention center. Alexander Khurudzhi, a member of the Public Monitoring Commission (POC) of Moscow, told Interfax about this.
According to him, Zuev confessed to him that he himself asked to go back to the medical unit of the pre-trial detention center.
“The fact is that in a civilian hospital he was in a temporary detention center at the institution, and the conditions there did not suit him. Even to ask to go to the toilet, I had to knock and ask the guards to take him out,” Khuruji said.
The PMC member specified that Zuev’s condition now remains difficult.
At the end of December 2021, it was reported that the rector of Shaninka, accused of embezzling 21 million rubles, was again placed in a pre-trial detention center. As Khuruji said, this happened at the request of the investigator.
Recall, the Moscow City Court on December 21 upheld the decision to extend the arrest of Zuev until March 7. The 67-year-old scientist is accused of embezzling 21 million rubles belonging to the FGAU Fund for New Forms of Education Development through fraud. In this case, the ex-deputy head of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation Marina Rakova was also arrested.
