Shots and clashes were reported in the Litoral Penitentiary

On the afternoon of January 12, there were new clashes between inmates of the Litoral Penitentiary, reported family members and human rights activists. Inhabitants of the area indicated that they also heard sounds as if they were gunshots.

Until 9:00 p.m. the national authorities, such as the SNAI and the National Police, did not confirm that event.

The clashes inside the Litoral Penitentiary would have started after 2:00 p.m.

According to activists and family members, the clashes were between inmates of pavilions 2 and 3.

Before the report of these new confrontations, the Government of Guayas published on social networks that “intense control and security operations” were being carried out by the personnel of the Armed Forces, outside the prison complex in Guayaquil.
