In the Orenburg region, infection with the omicron strain of coronavirus has been detected for the first time.
As reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the regional Ministry of Health, the patient returned from Egypt. Since January 4, the woman and her family have been at home in strict isolation and under constant medical supervision. At the same time, the patient does not have clinical manifestations of the virus; she had previously completed a full course of vaccination.
Recall that the Russians were warned of a record incidence due to the omicron strain. According to virologist Anatoly Altstein, due to this variant of the virus, the number of detected cases of the disease can exceed 100 thousand daily.
The strain of coronavirus infection, designated omicron by the World Health Organization (WHO), was identified in November last year in southern Africa. According to experts, it may turn out to be more pathogenic than other variants of COVID-19. At the same time, it is specified that the symptoms of infection with the omicron strain are similar to those of the common cold.
