The mayor of Quito, Santiago Guarderas, evaluated his first 100 days in office as positive

On the morning of this Monday, January 10, 2022, the mayor of Quito, Santiago Guarderas, had a conversation with journalists like analysis in the first 100 days of management -compiled on January 8-, after assuming the Mayor’s Office due to the removal of Jorge Yunda.

At the event, which took place in the courtyard of the Municipal Palace, the mayor highlighted his management as positive, stressing that It did not start from scratch, but in negative numbers. “We received with a budget execution of 38% and in these three months we have, if we counted the Metro, an execution of 73% and without counting the Metro, of 83%. That is, we have budget execution doubled ”, added.

In general, he emphasized that most of the problems facing the city They are due to the previous administration. Among them, he cited the inattention to leaks and drinking water connections, lack of paving and patching of streets, neglect of green areas and security in parks, as well as the lack of execution of certain contracts.

In response to a journalist’s question about a special examination by the State Comptroller General’s Office in which he concludes that the vehicle technical review would not have constitutionality to not having the respective contracts with the companies in charge, the mayor pointed out that it occurred precisely at the time of the mayoral dispute.

In July 2021 these contracts were terminated, “But two years ago payment agreements had been signed”, he pointed out.

He also said that a tender and contract of the company that meets the requirements was not carried out. Finally, on the subject, he offered that they are working on the best solution; One of the options, he said, would be to request the National Polytechnic School to take care of this necessary requirement for motorized vehicles in the capital.

Municipality Management

“A large part of the house is in order ”, said the mayor; this was one of the offers he made upon assuming office.

Among the advances highlighted by the Municipality of Quito are 46,500 interventions in potholes and ditches, 500 hectares of reclaimed public spaces, lighting management for 116 parks, recovery of the historic center, 135 property titles delivered, agreements with self-employed workers and agreements with parish governments for the award of works.

At 2022 also offered to increase security guards in parks, continue with the health brigades and fixed vaccination points, develop resurfacing plans in about 70 roads, divided into five work packages, attention to connections and drinking water emergencies, among others.

The budget that the Municipality of Quito has approved for this year is $ 830.96 million. The monumental work that this administration has offered will be the start of commercial operations of the Quito Metro, which the mayor anticipates that it will be for the last semester of this year. (I)
