National COE suspends school activities in fiscal system for a week

According to the Government, in this period, a vaccination will be given to both students and teachers.

Next week, between January 10 and 16, school activities will be suspended in the fiscal education system to promote vaccination for students and third doses for teachers whose second injection was given five months ago regardless of age.

That was one of the resolutions of the national Emergency Operations Committee (COE) released this Friday by the Minister of education, Mary Brown.

Activities of part-time in capacity of 2.25 m² of area per person, with face-to-face attendance only of vaccinated students and teachers with a complete scheme.

Brown added that, as of January the 8th, the vaccination card with two doses for children and young people, from 5 years, to access non-essential sites and activities.

The Minister of Health, Ximena Garzón, indicated that in week 52 the cases were “they shot”, Since there were 7,234 confirmed with PCR; while during this week they could exceed 10,000.

“This puts us in a epidemiological condition very similar to what we experienced in the weeks of the worst outbreaks of the pandemic, ”said Garzón.

Garzón mentioned that there is a increase in cases in children and young people up to 19 years of age, because they are the least vaccinated.

Alejandro Ribadeneira, Secretary of Higher Education, indicated that the national COE was asked to reduction of capacity from 75% to 50% in the higher education system while the rebound in cases lasts.

Ribadeneira pointed out that there is 47 universities and 40 institutes that have approved return plans that represent 40% of all higher education entities.

Upon the recommendation of the Guayaquil COE to evaluate declaring a state of exception, Juan Zapata, president of the national COE, ruled out confinements or states of exception.

“The president (Guillermo Lasso) has been absolutely clear, we are not in that situation to generate confinements or states of exception,” said Zapata, who added that there must be a epidemiological report that justifies it.
