Tikhanovskaya: The introduction of troops is an armed intervention in the affairs of another state

Opposition Belarusian politician Svetlana Tikhanovskaya condemned the participation of the armed forces of Belarus in suppressing riots in Kazakhstan.

“You don’t have to be a politician or an expert to understand that the introduction of troops is always an armed intervention in the affairs of another state. The people of Belarus would never come out and will not come out in favor of sending an army to suppress the will of the people of Kazakhstan, ”said Tikhanovskaya, quoted by Euroradio.

Tikhanovskaya stressed that Alyaksandr Lukashenka, who, according to her, has lost his legitimacy, has no right to make decisions on sending troops and “sacrifice Belarusians for the sake of an armed simulation of stability in the region”.

Only its citizens have the right to decide the fate of Kazakhstan and defend their choice, the politician said. “Going out on the street is normal, and in authoritarian regimes it is one of the few ways citizens can express their civic will,” Tikhanovskaya said.

She expressed the hope that the protesters and the Kazakh authorities will find an opportunity to start a dialogue and resolve the conflict without new casualties.

Earlier, the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, asked for the introduction of troops from the CSTO countries, and called the riots in the country “the invasion of bandit formations trained from abroad.”

A decision was made to bring CSTO peacekeepers into the republic. In addition to the Russian military, the contingent will include representatives of the Armed Forces of Belarus, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
