The procedure can be carried out up to eight days after the medical permit has concluded. The entry of physical documents can be done by a family member.
After the exchange of medical certificates collapsed a dispensary of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) in the north of Guayaquil, the entity communicated that not all users should personally approach to validate them, much less if the patient has COVID. In fact, there are cases in which this procedure can be done virtually.
How and in what cases can the virtual validation of private medical certificates be carried out at the IESS?
According to the information from the IESS, it is not necessary for a person to personally validate their private medical certificate if the doctor has prescribed one to three days of rest. If the break is four days ahead, then it is necessary to validate the certificate in person at the IESS establishment closest to your home, with the original document issued by a doctor along with the results of the exams.
The IESS reminds its members that the process can be done up to eight days after the period of medical leave has ended. In addition, the documentation can be entered by a relative of the patient.
Step by step for the virtual validation of the medical certificate at the IESS
- Enter the IESS website: https://www.iess.gob.ec/
- Select the option ‘Virtual procedures’, then ‘Insured’ and then ‘Affiliates’.
- In this section you have several options to carry out online procedures. Go to the bottom of the page and you will see ‘Validation of medical certificates’.
- Once there, a screen is displayed to enter the affiliate’s username and password.
- In the upper left, select the option ‘Monetary subsidy’ and then ‘Certificate registration’.
If you have symptoms, go to the IESS
Social Security recommends its users that in case of presenting symptoms such as temperature higher than 38 degrees, runny nose, sore throat, muscle pain, weakness, cough, among others, they should go to the respiratory triage area of the medical unit closest to your home.
In that area, doctors will assess your vital signs and symptoms and, if appropriate, perform a PCR or antigen test to determine if you have COVID-19.
After the results, the doctor will indicate to the patient the treatment to follow, says the entity, which calls for the procedures that can be done virtually to avoid crowds. (I)
