The Russians were told how to save money on the New Year’s table

Hearty, varied New Year’s table is part of the Russian tradition. However, this often hits the wallet and is rarely combined with the principles of proper nutrition. The head of the Department of Clinical Dietetics at the hospital named after V.I. V.V. Vinogradova Yulia Pigareva, listing the products of the New Year’s table, on which you can save money, and which you can choose more “healthy” counterparts.

According to the expert, the first product that can be safely deleted from the shopping list for the New Year’s holiday is sausage. “You can buy chicken, turkey or beef instead. The meat can be baked and served as slices or added to a salad (for example, at the Olivier). Besides the fact that this option will be cheaper, it is more useful, ”said the nutritionist.

The second product is caviar. Instead of expensive black or red caviar, she pointed out, you can choose pollock or halibut caviar. “This is a tasty and healthy product, which in composition is not inferior to the usual, more expensive counterparts. But I would like to note that for sandwiches it is worth using not white, but whole grain bread, ”advises Pigareva.

In addition, she believes, you can save on fish: buy not ready-made lightly salted, but whole and salt it yourself. Use the remaining parts for cooking other dishes, such as fish soup.

“You can completely refuse soda – not only is it not cheap, but also harmful. Instead, it is better to make fruit drink or compote from berries, ”the specialist is convinced.

Another item where you can “shrink” without harming your health is desserts. “Usually on New Year’s Eve the table is already varied, there is no need for desserts. Instead, it is better to buy fruit, ”the expert emphasized.

At the same time, she pointed out, there are two points on which it is better not to save money:

– on alcohol. Low-quality alcohol can cause health problems of varying severity, so it is better to buy it in a trusted place;

– vegetables. They are expensive in winter and often not bought. However, they must be in the first position on the table on New Years.

“To save money, it is enough to add fresh frozen and canned vegetables to fresh vegetables (preferably of our own production, but be sure to look at the composition) and use them for a side dish,” Pigareva concluded.
