The court in Karelia agreed with the demand of the prosecutor’s office and toughened the sentence to the historian Yuri Dmitriev.
The researcher was again found guilty in a “pedophile” case, which his supporters consider to be falsified.
According to judge Yekaterina Khomyakova, Dmitriev was involved in the production of child pornography. According to the court, Dmitriev’s guilt in episodes related to lecherous acts and illegal possession of weapons is also beyond doubt.
At the same time, earlier Dmitriev was acquitted under all the above articles, notes Echo of Moscow. The historian’s associates greeted the verdict with shouts of “Shame!”
The Supreme Court of Karelia in the fall sentenced the historian for sexual abuse of a girl to 13 years in prison.
The new verdict was commented on by the politician Lev Schlosberg, who recalled that Dmitriev was engaged in preserving the memory of the victims of repression. “15 years – revenge for the investigation of Stalin’s crimes in Sandarmokh. That is, for the investigation of violent actions of a political nature. 15 years in the undoubted hope that Dmitriev will not live to see freedom, ”the oppositionist wrote on his Telegram channel.
Dmitriev, who heads the Karelian branch of Memorial (the organization is included in the register of NGOs-foreign agents), has been persecuted since 2016. According to the investigation, in 2008-2015, he photographed his underage daughter in the nude and, using these pictures, allegedly produced pornographic materials.
