States will agree on how to respond to a pandemic in the future. Discussions of the global agreement are scheduled to begin in 2022, said the head of the World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus, the text is published by the Izvestia newspaper.
The head of WHO noted that “countries will begin to discuss a global agreement to combat the pandemic, which will help to strengthen governance and financing mechanisms, as well as systems and tools that the world needs to prevent, prepare for, and detect epidemics and pandemics.”
He also added that 70% of the world’s population needs to be vaccinated by the middle of next year for the coronavirus pandemic to end. According to Gebreyesus, the COVID-19 pandemic has demonstrated that health threats endanger all aspects of life, and states should not fear “any reprimand” for providing information on virus strains, testing and sequencing.
Earlier, the head of WHO said that the COVID-19 pandemic will end in 2022.
