In the Murmansk region, the first case of infection with the new omicron strain of covid was detected.

The administration of the Kovdor district of the region, where the infected person was identified, reported on its VKontakte page that the case was imported. In one of the settlements of the region, guests from abroad came to visit their relatives. At the entrance, they passed a covid test, two of them tested positive, they were sent to self-isolation. Further research showed that one of the infected had an omicron strain. Now the question of hospitalization of the sick person is being decided.

Recall that the first cases of infection with the omicron strain in Russia were recorded on December 6 in two Russians who returned from South Africa. As of December 21, 41 cases of omicron infection were recorded in the country. The cases were identified in Moscow and the Moscow region, St. Petersburg and Rostov-on-Don.

The World Health Organization announced on December 21 that omicron has already been found in 106 countries. According to the latest WHO data, this strain spreads faster than the “delta” even in countries with high levels of immunity from the virus. Information regarding the severity of the disease remains limited. Deaths from the omicron strain have been reported in the US, UK and Israel.

Earlier today, doctor Timur Pesterev warned that after the omicron there will be new strains of coronavirus. According to him, omicron is just another type of covid that has become less dangerous and more infectious. At the same time, the physician criticized the opinion that “omicron” can replace the vaccine and that instead of vaccination it is better to get sick with this type. Better to get vaccinated, he stressed.
