Austria is tightening restrictions on the period of the New Year holidays in connection with the coronavirus pandemic. This was announced by the chief sanitary doctor of the Austrian Ministry of Health Katharina Reich, who heads the COVID Crisis Coordination Center (GECKO). According to her, the new restrictions will take effect on December 27 and will be mandatory on New Year’s Eve.
We are talking about the earlier closure of catering enterprises (22:00 instead of 23:00, as it is now). At the same time, only citizens who have completed a full course of vaccination against coronavirus or who have been ill with it on the condition that they wear masks are allowed to visit restaurants and public events.
These restrictions are much more moderate than in the Netherlands, where a tough lockdown has already been announced, and London, where an emergency regime was introduced a few days ago.
Earlier it was announced that starting from December 20, only citizens vaccinated and ill with COVID-19 will be able to enter Austria, while the latter will have to present a negative PCR test. This requirement also includes exceptions – in particular, it does not apply to pregnant women, schoolchildren and persons with medical contraindications for vaccination.
