The Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (Osiptel) reported today that the speed of access to the fixed broadband internet in Peru improved its performance in November of this year, according to the measurement applied by Ookla, a global company specializing in testing, data analysis and the internet.
The download speed indicator advanced to 60.21 Mbps (megabits per second), which meant a growth of 29.8% from the 48.38 Mbps reported in the same month of 2020, it revealed Osiptel via a press release on the website.
In addition, according to the November data report, the upload speed (upload) of the fixed broadband internet reached 32.5 Mbps and thus doubled what was observed in the same month last year. While latency, which measures the reception of online content with a greater or lesser delay, improved by 5 ms (milliseconds) to 21 ms in the eleventh month of the year.
Likewise, in the analysis carried out by the Directorate of Regulatory Policies and Competition (DPRC) of Osiptel to the data from Ookla, it was found that the symmetry between the speed of uploading and downloading on the fixed internet has also evolved positively until reaching a peak of 54% in November.
With these results, Peru ranked seventh in South America with respect to the performance of fixed broadband speed, which surpassed Ecuador (40.3 Mbps), Bolivia (30.3 Mbps) and Venezuela (26.3 Mbps), but below the average (83.9 Mbps), which considered ten countries (Chile, Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Paraguay, Argentina, Ecuador, Bolivia, Venezuela and Peru). These economies have at least 1% of the total market for mobile and fixed service users in South America.
Peru maintains fourth place in South America in mobile internet speed
During the month of November, our country held fourth place in South America in measuring the performance of mobile download internet speed with 26.36 Mbps, a figure higher than the average (25.6 Mbps) and Ecuador (25.4 Mbps), Chile (24.7 Mbps) ), Bolivia (23.7 Mbps), Paraguay (20.1 Mbps), Colombia (19.4 Mbps) and Venezuela (9.1 Mbps).
The mobile download speed in November was the second best result observed in the year, after the 26.43 Mbps recorded in May and represented an increase of 15.5% compared to the same month of the previous year.
