Former commander of the ground forces of Poland Waldemar Skshipchak believes that the soldier Emil Chechko, who fled to Belarus, deserves only a death sentence.
According to the Polish media, Sksipchak said that he had spent his entire life in the army, but he faced desertion for the first time. According to the general, the soldier “in the conditions of war” went over to the side of the conditional enemy, so 10 years in prison is too humane a punishment for him. During the war, he would have been shot, Skshipchak specified.
He also stressed that Chechko was hardly a “Belarusian spy,” as some media suggest. “Which spy is a private?” – said the general.
We will remind, earlier it was reported that the military gendarmerie of Poland will initiate a desertion case against a soldier who fled to Belarus from Poland. The State Border Committee of Belarus reported that Chechko asked for political asylum from Minsk. Minsk said that Chechko asked for political asylum “in connection with disagreement with the policy of Poland regarding the migration crisis and the practice of inhumane treatment of refugees.”
Already in Minsk, Chechko said on TV that he allegedly saw two cases of the murder of volunteers by Polish security forces trying to help migrants at the border and said that both of those killed were Poles. In one case, he said, a man was shot point-blank in the forehead. He also said that the Polish border guards allegedly forced the soldiers, who went with them to patrol the border, to get drunk in advance, and then “told to kill someone.” There is no other confirmation of his words.
In Warsaw, they said that the soldier had problems with the law and he filed a letter of resignation.
