The investigation asked to arrest in absentia the politician Leonid Gozman and economist, professor at the University of Chicago Konstantin Sonin (both entered Ministry of Justice of the Russian Federation to the list of foreign agents) in the case of disseminating false information about the actions of the Russian army on the territory of Ukraine. RBC reports this with reference to the press service of the Gagarinsky District Court of Moscow.
The hearing will take place on February 20, although law enforcement agencies previously planned to hold the trial on February 14. The date was postponed due to the expectation of “additional documents of involvement and notifications.”
Let us remind you that a criminal case (Part 1 of Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation) was opened against Gozman at the end of 2023. Before this, the politician left for Israel. Sonin has been under criminal prosecution (clause d, part 2, article 207.3 of the Criminal Code) since May last year. However, he moved from Russia to the United States back in 2015.
Leonid Gozman is an oppositionist, one of the ex-leaders of the liberal party “Union of Right Forces” (SPS). In July 2022, a case was opened against Gozman due to failure to notify government agencies of his second citizenship (he had previously received an Israeli passport).
Konstantin Sonin is an economist, professor at the University of Chicago and former vice-rector of the Higher School of Economics (HSE). In May 2023, the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs put the scientist on the wanted list.
