The Russian president put his signature on the law on confiscation of property for fakes about the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The Federation Council approved this project unanimously on February 7.
According to the law, changes are being made to two articles of the Criminal Code – on the dissemination of fakes about the army and on calls for activities directed against the security of the state. The draft notes that violators will be deprived of military ranks and state awards, and confiscation of property will also be introduced.
Let us note that in Russia, since last year, there has already been a law on criminal penalties for the public dissemination of false information about the actions of the Russian army. However, according to the authors of the new project, the scale and sophistication of the information war waged against the Russian Federation has increased. “Fakes and provocations are dangerous weapons,” added the initiative’s developers. They believe that tightening responsibility for fakes and public calls for illegal activities will help more effectively resist information aggression.
The new draft tightens criminal liability.
The project was submitted to the State Duma on January 22, its authors were 395 deputies. Earlier, commenting on the adoption of the project, the head of the State Duma, Vyacheslav Volodin, wrote on Telegram that a “law on scoundrels” had been adopted.
