Four days a patient had to wait for a fracture surgery at the Ambato General Teaching Hospital (HGDA), since there was no “iron” they needed for the intervention. This was detailed by Génesis Toabanda, niece of the hospitalized person, who since last Sunday had to be behind the care of her family member.
She stated that once the supply was obtained, they did the surgery, but that they also had to buy some things, such as gauze, in addition to other medications that she did not remember what they were, but she assured that they spent around $ 50.
As in this case, other relatives of patients reported the lack of certain medications and supplies in the same hospital. Luis Conde indicated that a son was also admitted with a fracture on Tuesday; They also intervened it only last Thursday, because they lacked an input that it required. He stated that in a matter of medicines they gave him all he needed.
The manager of the HGDA, Andrés Jaramillo, acknowledged that some medicines and supplies are still missing, but that the health center is 80% supplied.
He added that there are supplier companies that in the last instances decide to terminate the purchase orders, which are no longer dispatched due to some circumstances, so they are already processes that are out of their hands.
He added that the problems are few, because it can be said that with 80% supply, the attention to the vast majority of the requirements is good, taking into account that the hospital is full and even in some areas beyond its capacity. As a consequence of the fact that the previous year due to the pandemic, care was not provided to various specialties.

Regarding patients with COVID-19, Jaramillo indicated that until Friday there was not a single patient, both in the intensive care unit (ICU) and in the hospitalization area; two people had been admitted with symptoms, but it would be to confirm with the results if they are positive or negative, and that in the meantime they were kept in isolation.
