Russian deputies began to be prohibited from leaving the country

In Buryatia, deputies will have their right to leave Russia limited. Such a bill was developed by the parliament of the republic, Interfax writes.

The project assumes that travel restrictions are planned for those deputies who have information of particular importance or possess secret data. The decision to restrict the right to travel will be made by the head of the People’s Khural within seven days from the moment the deputy or chairman was last familiarized with such information.

The deputy in respect of whom such a decision will be made will have to transfer his passport for storage to the civil service and personnel department within five working days, and upon resignation, the passport will be transferred for storage to the government agency that issued the document.

The People’s Khural of Buryatia plans to adopt this measure on February 29, the Vedomosti newspaper clarifies. The media, citing experts, writes that similar restrictions will appear in other regions.

It should be noted that regional authorities unofficially began introducing restrictions on the travel of deputies and officials in 2023. At that time, the measures were advisory in nature. According to the Kommersant newspaper, the recommendations were introduced after a series of high-profile scandals related to vacations at foreign resorts. The measures were in effect in particular in the Vologda, Tambov, Ulyanovsk regions, Mari El, North Ossetia, Chuvashia and other constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
