The day before, Roskomnadzor sent a letter to the management of Google LLC (the owner of the YouTube video hosting service) demanding that restrictions be lifted from the German-language information and analytical channel RT auf Sendung, owned by the Russian RT. In case of disobedience, the RKN threatens to block YouTube.
The letter notes that “the destructive actions of video hosting are unprecedented, violate the key principles of free distribution of information and unhindered access to it.” The department considers this to be an act of censorship.
In December, the international news channel RT launched the German-language TV channel RT DE with an information and analytical focus and, in parallel, the YouTube channel RT auf Sendung, which rebroadcasts the live broadcast of RT DE. However, on the day of the launch, the YouTube channel “RT auf Sendung” was blocked for violating the rules of the site. ILV requires detailed explanations of the reasons for the blocking.
For such actions, the department warns, the service can be included in the corresponding list and receive a warning from Roskomnadzor. If the owner of the resource fails to comply with the Roskomnadzor warning, the law provides for measures of partial or complete restriction of access, as well as administrative liability.
