For the first time, a delegation from the Moscow government took part in the international exhibition Smart Cities India Expo in New Delhi.
Speaking at the opening of the forum, the Minister of the Moscow Government, Head of the Department of External Economic and International Relations, Chairman of the Board of the Business Council for Cooperation with India Sergei Cheremin noted the long history of successful cooperation between India and Russia, and also highlighted promising areas of bilateral partnership.
“We are united by the common goal of building the most modern infrastructure, creating a safe and comfortable urban environment. One of the most promising areas of our cooperation is undoubtedly information technology and the digital economy, the Smart and Safe City programs. India and Russia strive to become leaders in this area, and joining forces can create a synergistic effect,” Cheremin emphasized.
At the exhibition exposition of the Russian capital, partners from India were presented with information and high-tech solutions, as well as successful experience in implementing the Smart City project, including an intelligent transport system, the provision of online government services, the Moscow Electronic School platform and the use of artificial intelligence. Visitors to the stand were told how Moscow is achieving its goals of creating a comfortable, developing, cultural and safe urban environment for every resident of the metropolis. Mosekomonitoring, INTERMOBILITY, SberCity, VisionLabs, Synergy University, STC “Constructor”, Sitronics Group, Keysystems, LTD, Sberbank India, Aquarius, ZeBrains, Indian Business Alliance, EXCON Group took part in the stand.
The SberCity project was popular among visitors to the Moscow stand, demonstrating innovative engineering developments for the design and construction of smart cities. “SberCity in Rublevo-Arkhangelskoye uses a wide range of its own innovative developments. One of the main ones is the smart home system, which is associated with the operation of a whole complex of engineering solutions in an apartment, house and on the territory. Its use makes it possible to predict the consumption of residents, increasing the energy efficiency of equipment, and avoid heat loss. The entire energy complex is controlled by artificial intelligence from a single energy management center for the territory. One of the important management parameters is reducing the impact on the environment, in particular, this is facilitated by the unique “smokeless” technology,” said Ilya Pulner, Deputy General Director and Director of the Energy Supply Department of Rublevo-Arkhangelskoye JSC.
Of particular interest to Indian specialists was the Moscow regional environmental monitoring system, which includes air quality monitoring, surface water monitoring, soil quality monitoring, green space monitoring, noise level monitoring, monitoring of hazardous geo-ecological processes, as well as environmentally friendly electric transport, in particular – electric trams. Much attention was also paid to the capital’s digital projects in such areas as e-government, urban management, environment, human resources, security and ecology.

As Sergei Cheremin emphasized during the session “Expanding cooperation and future opportunities for sustainable green cities” at the Smart Cities forum, “Moscow is a smart and sustainable city,” which today is achieving success in a variety of areas, demonstrating constant economic growth. At the same time, the Russian capital uses almost all tools to efficiently use resources and improve the quality of life of citizens while maintaining an optimal level of environmental impact. Only a few cities in the world have such experience.
Also during the forum, business meetings between Sergei Cheremin and Deputy Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manoj Joshi, Deputy Foreign Minister Jaishankar Charanjit Singh and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of India Dammu Ravi took place. At the meetings, issues were discussed regarding the intensification of bilateral cooperation in the field of urban development, urban planning, the introduction of digital technologies in the city government system, education, healthcare, economic sphere, as well as cooperation in the field of renovation and housing and communal services, as well as the possibility of holding joint Moscow -Indian cultural, humanitarian and business events in 2024.
The forum, held in New Delhi from January 17 to 19, was organized by the Moscow Department of External Economic and International Relations, the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Republic of India, the Trade Mission of the Russian Federation in India and the Moscow Center for International Cooperation.
