What we experienced last week, apart from being unprecedented in our history, seems to have been a kind of turning point in the progress of crime in Ecuador, in the tolerance of our society and, above all, in the state’s attitude towards it.

While the whole country watched in amazement the live images of the invasion of the criminal group on the TC Televisión channel, a collective hysteria took over a society that was unable to react.

The one that reacted immediately was the national government with the forces of order, which with a perfect operation, without loss of life to regret, and also the living, took control of the situation, and then of those responsible for such a terrible event.

From then on, the declaration of martial law and the actions carried out in the following days made us look at the future with optimism, and at the same time with resentment at the immediate past.

Because Daniel Noboa shows that in a short time, despite scarce resources and without much experience in running the state, he can decisively oppose crime. That the forces of order are prepared and adapted to the circumstances, and that when they have adequate support from above, they act.

It is clear that this campaign has only just begun and it is too early to be able to predict the levels of success, or even the estimated times, for Ecuadorians to feel that we have regained the peace we once had. However, what has been seen so far is enough to conclude that this Government is doing what the previous one did not. That crime is unpleasant and that, for reasons we are unable to analyze, the progress of organized crime in Ecuador has relied on the voluntary and involuntary negligent cooperation of the state, at different levels and in different situations.

The result of the operations carried out by the forces of order, in terms of the quantity and quality of the materials arrested and seized, cannot be understood otherwise.

I believe that what happened last week live on TC television encouraged a sense of community and rejection of the general violence that spread throughout the national territory, in all social structures, and above all in the highest levels of political power.

I believe that our Armed Forces and the National Police, questioned and mistreated so many times, today have the support and admiration of all of us who feel this piece of land is ours, who long for better days and who dream of being there again. the island of peace that we went to one day.

President Nobo had to lead the country in one of the most complex moments in history, from which he would be re-elected as a hero or defeated as a villain. There is no room for half measures. And the way things are going, we see the first scenario as likely, because, thank God, the big voter doesn’t reach the hatred radiated by those hired to criticize everything, as well as the failures that, in order to equalize, they want the current government to fail.
