The head of the Ukrainian company Naftogaz, Yuriy Vitrenko, said that in the event that frosts of -15 degrees are established on the territory of Ukraine for two weeks, problems with heating may arise in the country.
Speaking on the air of the 1 + 1 TV channel, Vitrenko noted that “despite constant forecasts of a catastrophe,” there are currently no problems with heating in Ukraine. He emphasized that Naftogaz offered its assistance in the import of coal, but electricity suppliers are so far doing without this assistance.
At the same time, he noted that problems may nevertheless arise – in the event that “in February there will be two weeks of frost of 15 degrees.” However, according to him, “there would have been the same problems three years ago and ten years ago.” He noted that “all energy systems in the world” are subject to such problems, and in order to avoid them, “unrealistic” gas deposits and volumes in storage facilities would be needed. According to Vitrenko, even “the richest countries in the world cannot afford such a luxury.”
