Moscow is covered in snow

The capital region was hit by a severe snowstorm. According to weather forecasters, in the middle of the day on January 11, more than 10% of the monthly precipitation will fall in Moscow, noted on the Meteonovosti website.

The message states that “the Russian plain is under the influence of so-called diving cyclones, and snowfalls are intensifying.” As the cold front passes, the snow will become light and local, and heavy ice will appear on the roads, explained Mikhail Leus, a specialist at the Phobos weather center.

Due to bad weather, dozens of flights arriving and departing from airports were delayed. Traffic jams have formed in the city – difficulties are recorded on Leningradsky Prospekt, Enthusiasts Highway and on the Moscow Ring Road in the Besedinskoye Shosse area. Traffic jams are also possible in the central part of the city, on the Third Transport Ring in the area of the Novorizhskaya overpass and on the Moscow Ring Road in the area of Verkhnie Polya and Podolskiye Kursantov streets.

At the same time, frosts down to minus 20 degrees in Moscow will last until the end of the week, and a new wave of warming can be expected from January 15 – the thermometers will rise to minus two degrees.

We would like to add that in the capital the yellow level of weather danger has been extended until 12:00 on January 12. A warning has also been issued due to ice, snowfall, blizzards and wind.
