Police in Ukraine plan to take citizens walking on New Year’s Eve to military registration and enlistment offices. As stated by the deputy head of the department of preventive activities of the National Police of Ukraine, Anatoly Seredinsky, law enforcement officers will catch curfew violators.
He added that “the national police will deliver such people to regional departments or recruiting centers (military registration and enlistment offices),” as quoted by Kommersant.
Seredinsky clarified that about 30 thousand police officers will ensure law and order in Ukraine on New Year’s Eve.
Please note that due to the martial law throughout the country (except for the Transcarpathian region), a curfew has been introduced – from 0:00 local time to 5:00 or from 23:00 to 5:00. People are prohibited from being on the street at this time; movement will be possible only with a special pass.
Earlier, Ukraine adopted a bill to move Christmas from January 7 to December 25. The country’s leader, Vladimir Zelensky, explained this by the fight against “Russian ideology.” He noted that “Russian ideology has long been imposed on the Ukrainian people in many areas of life, including regarding the observance of the Julian calendar and the celebration of the Nativity of Christ on January 7.”
