The executive head of the association of food producers and suppliers “Rusprodsoyuz” Dmitry Vostrikov explained the reasons for the rise in food prices.
In an interview with RTVI, he highlighted several factors influencing the increase in the cost of products. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the global division of labor has been seriously shaken, which has led to an increase in the cost of international logistics and a significant rise in food prices around the world. In addition, sanctions were introduced, which also affected prices.
Vostrikov noted that the cost of internal logistics in Russia has increased by about 35%, and in some areas by 60-70%. He added that previously in the Russian food industry, many enterprises switched to imported equipment in order to be competitive. However, now there are problems with the delivery and maintenance of this equipment.
Vostrikov emphasized that the labor shortage also leads to higher wages, which increases producer costs and affects price increases. He, in addition, noted that there are non-tax payments, which are essentially mandatory payments for which enterprises must report.
In general, according to Vostrikov, prices are constantly rising because the global financial system is based on interest rates and various industries use loans for development, which leads to inflation.
