Despite the fact that prices for chicken eggs in Russia are not regulated by the state, the Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has strengthened control over the formation of prices for this product.
This is how the department responded to a request from the chairman of the Duma Committee on Family, Children and Women, RTVI writes. The FAS response notes the seasonal variability of egg prices: in the summer they decrease, in the fall they increase.
Analysts from the Russian Poultry Union note that the high demand for eggs is due to the fact that they are the most affordable source of animal protein. However, the FAS revealed violations of antimonopoly legislation, which led to an unreasonable increase in prices for chicken eggs. Cases were initiated against violators, and large retail chains received an appeal from the FAS with a request to limit the markup on eggs of all categories.
Some of the large retail chains agreed to limit the markup to no more than 10%, and all members of the Union of Independent Chains of Russia reduced it to a maximum of 5%.
The FAS reminded that unscheduled inspections are limited in accordance with antimonopoly legislation. However, regional heads are engaged in operational monitoring of prices for chicken eggs and other goods of social importance, in accordance with the instructions of the government.
