The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of Russia opened cases against producers of chicken eggs in Crimea, who allowed wholesale prices to rise to 94%, and against producers in the Kirov region, who increased prices to 60%, TASS reports citing the press service departments.
“FAS has opened cases against chicken egg producers. The interregional Crimean OFAS revealed a one-time increase in prices for chicken eggs on the part of two Crimean manufacturing companies Partizan LLC and Oktyabrskoye JV LLC. From the beginning of September 2023, companies allowed an increase in wholesale prices of up to 94% for different categories of eggs,” the statement says.
According to the service, a one-time simultaneous increase in price, not associated with changes in other general conditions of circulation of goods, has signs of violation of the Law on Protection of Competition.
“The Kirov OFAS revealed the fact of an increase in prices for chicken eggs by producers Sovetskaya Agrofirma LLC and Vyatsko-Polyanskaya Poultry Farm JSC. From the beginning of June to October 2023, these companies allowed wholesale prices for eggs to increase by up to 60%,” the report notes.
FAS notes that the department opened a case against the companies on the grounds of a cartel agreement, which led to an increase in prices for chicken eggs. During the consideration of the case, the antimonopoly authority will assess the validity of such an increase.
“If violations are established as part of the consideration of antimonopoly cases, companies face turnover fines in accordance with the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation,” the service’s message adds.
