Sergei Bubka: Ukraine will help the IOC check Russians supporting the SVO
The former head of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine, Sergei Bubka, said that the country will help the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in testing Russian athletes. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti with reference to a meeting of the General Assembly of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.
Bubka said that in Ukraine they will help search for information about Russian and Belarusian athletes who support the SVO. “I think it’s very positive, they are open and ready to work with us,” he emphasized.
On December 12, Acting Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matvey Bedny said that the country would participate in the competition. At the same time, he made it clear that the country will do everything to prevent the Russians from getting there.
On December 8, the IOC announced the admission of Russians and Belarusians to the Games in Paris. They will be able to take part in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support the SVO, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed.
