Violence and terrorist activities by Israeli settlers in the West Bank against Palestinian civilians are increasing, and this is of concern to the G7 and the EU, said Peter Stano, a spokesman for European diplomacy chief Josep Borrell.
“This undermines security and stability. And we have seen the United States impose sanctions against those who commit this violence, and the G7 demands that Israeli authorities hold the perpetrators of these crimes and attacks accountable to justice,” the spokesman said Thursday at a briefing in Brussels.
“This increased violence by radical settlers who indiscriminately terrorize innocent Palestinians, destroying their homes and sometimes public buildings funded by the European Union, is of great concern to us. We raise this topic in contacts with our Israeli partners, conveying our concerns to them, both through the EU delegation on site and through other channels. We repeat that this is unacceptable, it must be stopped, and those responsible must answer for their crimes,” Stano said.
He called this a “dangerous trend” that requires investigation, emphasizing that further escalation would not serve anyone’s interests, Interfax reports.
