The authorities of the Northern capital decided to declare 2024 the Year of St. Petersburg State University. This was reported to Rosbalt by the press service of Smolny.
As part of the support for the scientific and educational sphere in St. Petersburg provided by the city budget, in the next three years the amount of city subsidies, awards and scholarships for students, graduate students and scientists will be doubled.

He recalled that St. Petersburg State University is the oldest university in the country: in 2024 it will turn 300 years old.
“This is the starting point of the history of university education in Russia. This is a source of personnel for the country,” said the head of St. Petersburg, emphasizing that the anniversary of St. Petersburg State University is an event of national scale. Russian President Vladimir Putin graduated from the university at one time.
The governor of the Northern capital also spoke about the city’s festive decorations in connection with the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg State University. Thus, public transport in St. Petersburg will receive appropriate decoration, and the Palace Bridge will be decorated with university flags. Objects of St. Petersburg State University will appear on tourist maps. On the founding day of the university—February 8—torches will be lit on the Rostral columns. In addition, the theme of the anniversary is planned to be reflected in the alumni holiday “Scarlet Sails”.
