Prices for baked goods made from wheat flour have increased in Russia. As the Izvestia newspaper reports, citing data from Rusprodsoyuz, the cost of bread increased by 5% over the year.
Thus, in November 2022, the average cost of bread in retail stores was 85.07 rubles/kg, and this year – 89.3 rubles/kg. It is clarified that over the last month the increase in prices for bread made from wheat flour amounted to 1.3% from 88.12 rubles/kg in October. At the same time, the price of bread made from rye flour increased by 5.7% over the year, from 69.93 rubles/kg to 73.92 rubles/kg – by 1.5% per month.
Bread is becoming more expensive, although in 2023 the total grain harvest in Russia amounted to 137–138 million tons. The country has sold more than 60 million abroad. Muscovites are especially dissatisfied with the prices of bread, who are indignant that in stores the price for fresh bread reaches 92 rubles, while those who cannot afford such a purchase have to buy the discounted bread from the day before yesterday for 35 rubles, writes the portal msk1.ru. The media also cites the words of readers who wonder why the Russian Federation gives “grain for free to African countries, while raising bread prices for its own.”
Rusprodsoyuz explained that the rise in prices is associated with increased costs of logistics, maintenance of equipment and spare parts, as well as rising wages.
We also add that the Russian Federation has imposed a ban on the export of durum wheat from December 1.
